Aristotle once said, “Wealth is evidently not the good we are seeking, for it is merely useful and for the sake of something else.” This might sound like a statement that challenges almost every idea of our wealth-driven world. But think about it and it might change how you think about wealth.
We live in a culture obsessed with money. Wealth is often seen as the best goal—a symbol of success and status. But Aristotle said that wealth is not the goal. It’s a tool, nothing more. Money, in his view, exists to serve something more important.
This idea is amazing. It challenges the conventional thinking that equates wealth with happiness, and success with the ability to accumulate material goods. Wealth, on its own, is meaningless. It can buy comfort, yes, but it doesn’t necessarily bring meaning, fulfillment, or purpose.
The truth is, wealth can be a great tool, but it should never be the driver. When you use it wisely, it can help you achieve your goals and be happier.
How to be wealthy?
By understanding that the idea of trying to earn “more money” isn’t what wealthy is. To be wealthy is to have “enough money”. And to understand that to earn wealth for the sake of wealth isn’t important.
What is your opinion? What does it mean to be wealthy?
